(GUIDE) “Training Police Officers from Prevention, Investigation, Inquiry, and Cyber Police Units on Ensuring Children’s Safety in Cyberspace”

“Training Police Officers from Prevention, Investigation, Inquiry, and Cyber Police Units on Ensuring Children’s Safety in Cyberspace” (DOWNLOAD) is a training and methodological guide developed by the NGO Volunteer Ukrainian Centre.

It is aimed at strengthening knowledge and skills in effective strategies for protecting children from online violence, cyber risks, and digital threats during martial law, as well as improving the child protection system and cooperation among police units when responding to cases of online violence against children.

The guide is intended for educators and trainers responsible for the professional training of personnel from various structural units of the National Police of Ukraine.

The training guide consists of a general section and a specialized section, both presented in the form of training modules. The topics included in the general section are designed for officers from different units of the National Police of Ukraine and cover issues related to children’s online safety and emerging challenges, particularly during martial law; online risks and threats faced by children; basic principles and approaches to digital safety; the child protection system and cooperation among police units in responding to cases of online violence against children; and strategies for protecting children from violence in cyberspace.

The topics included in the specialized section are intended for the training of specific categories of police officers—those working in prevention, pre-trial investigation, and cyber police units—within the scope of their responsibilities related to children’s online safety. All topics proposed in the guide may be selected and adapted according to participants’ existing knowledge and experience. They can be used flexibly in initial professional training programmes, higher education institutions with specific police training curricula, in-service training, and professional development courses.

Before conducting training sessions, instructors are advised to review the relevance and accuracy of all references and sources, particularly those related to legal frameworks, and to make any necessary updates or additions.
